Torture, Violence and Abuse
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international treaties specify that everyone has the right to security of the person and protection against violence or bodily harm, and also that everyone has the right to be free from torture and from cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. But torture, violence and abuse permeate the lives of those who challenge sexual or gender norms; gay men are tortured in police custody, trans people are murdered in public spaces, and lesbians are raped in their homes. We work with our partners around the world to hold governments accountable for torture, violence or abuse to people whose sexual orientation, gender identity or expression differs from dominant norms.
